DEAR SKIN, DON'T!

Don't look like what I've been through

Don't show where I've been

Don't display my sweat

Don't look pale in the Harmattan season making me look like a cadaver

Don't shine weirdly after a day under the hot sun like Mama Kumi's akara

Don't wrinkle when I'm old and frail

Finally, don't ask me what I need you to look like!

IF I KNEW THE ADDRESS OF HAPPINESS

If I knew the address of happiness,

My body and soul would sail with me to its residence

I'd sit on its porch and beckon to it

I'd ask for my share of glee

Never would I leave without a nucleus of happiness in my cells

But I know not where it dwells.

MY KIND OF FAITH

Wavering faith, that's all I got for now

I pray like forever

Do I get an answer?

No, I get almost nothing!

I'm at that point

Where prayer seems not to matter anymore

Because I've prayed about the same thing for years

But I get a one-tenth response

When I complain aloud,

All I hear is, "Have faith

Faith, for how long?

A mustard seed kinda faith is supposed to give me a miracle

My mountain-like faith gets me silence

I'm disappointed repeatedly

And, I'm probably angry

Maybe faith isn't it

Maybe there's something else

Maybe it's the place of grace

Maybe it's all about mercy

If these will fit me,

I want a large dosage

And I need faith as the icing.
